There are actually a lot of variations of the Minion Master build.

The variations however, don't vary by much.

The most common stat is Death Magic. The highest you can have is 16 in that attribute: 12 + head piece + Superior Rune of Death Magic (+3)

Now here is where the rest gets differentiated:

Soul Reaping: 3 to 15
Healing Prayers: 0 to 10
Blood Magic: 0 to 12

Soul Reaping is a must (minimum is 3). Healing Prayers if you are a N/Mo, if not then N/x and use Blood Magic.

If you are a Prophecies only character, then you would proabably bring Offering of Blood as your elite skill (which means you will need points into Blood Magic.

The choice is yours (you can change your secondary profession later in the game).

If you have Factions as well, then you have other options (like the Ritualist or Assassin) as your secondary.

Energy management is crucial to a MM (Minion Master).

If you are a N/Mo, then people use healing breeze, orison of healing, or heal area (the most popular).

As for Elite skills, some people choose, Aura of the Lich, Offering Of Blood, Tainted Flesh, Animate Blood Golem (Factions only elite).

Look at the forum and read threads, especially the Necromancer build thread.

As for armor, + energy would be the way to go.

Have fun and enjoy your new necromancer.

Like posted above ...

Armor is pretty much open, some will give extra health, some extra armor and some extra energy. As a MM you will need to make sure that you have plenty of energy. For the head piece, get one that has the +1 Death Magic and then add a Superior Ruin of Death Magic (12 attribute points +1 from head piece +3 from ruin = 16). Also for you armor ... add the Blood stained boots (as soon as you can get them from Henge of Denravi) as they reduce the casting time of spells that target corpses by 25% (minimum: 1/4 Second).

For a weapon, a collectors weapon is nice or look for one that 1/2 the casting and/or recharging of death magic spells (20% chance). If you can get a one handed one, get a + energy off hand item, one with a 20% chance for +1 death magic is nice.

For attributes, you are going to want / need the 16 in death magic and as much as you can spare in Soul Reaping then as stated above .. the rest depends on your secondary.

Here is a link to an example build for a MM

I would also suggest reading this

How about using the search option and reading the guides?

I love how only about 2 of the posts here are actually helpful.

Anyway, Prophecies only? I started from factions so I got some perks you can't/may not be able to get. Here's how I see it though:

N/Mo
12+1+3 death
10 SR
8(?) Healing
1~2 Blood

+energy armor and a 20/20 death staff

Barbs(if you invest in curses), Death Nova if you don't.
Animate Bone Minions/Horror/Fiend
Blood of the Masters
Heal Area
Dark Bond
Rebirth/Revive/etc

Just sit behind your zombies and mass produce them.

That's the bare bones though.

Ok, just to give you some counter-feedback, the following should be helpful:

Healing breeze and orison are almost always bad skills, especially on a necro. High Soul reaping is huge for energy management, since you're going to need energy (for the most part) when things die, and alas, that's what SR gives you!

As for minions, don't use them. Fiends are better, vamp horrors once you get to cantha, as well as flesh golem. To be honest, it's really not your best to be prophecies only as a minion master, but you have to do what you have to do.

Offering of Blood is good for an elite, unless you're in a place with tons of bodies, then I've often used SS. With high death and moderate sr and curses, you can pump out a TON of damage with Spiteful and minions. It's very tough to maintain that though, so it's only useful when lots of things are dying to keep your energy up.
